"Football provides a common experience for millions of people around the world. Through football, I have played professionally in Peru, Argentina and England, and I have been able to visit many countries around the world for club teams and as part of the Peruvian national team.
"By encountering people of different cultures, different communities and different countries, anyone can improve as a person. Not only do you think more about your own responsibilities, but you also develop more understanding for and sympathy with other people. You develop relationships and friendships that shape the person you are, that inform the choices you make and that can change your life and theirs.
"I support Consett the World because it uses common experiences to bring together ordinary people from vastly different backgrounds so that together they can have opportunities to grow and to express themselves to their fullest potential.
"This plan to bring four football teams from such different parts of the world together to help in the development of so many young people really captures my imagination. I congratulate Consett the World for this initiative and wish you every success."

Sir Bobby Robson has offered his support to the project: "Having just heard about Consett the World, my immediate reaction is that it sounds a very ambitious and worthwhile project.
"Football, the global world sport, continues successfully to bring sporting people together from all walks of life and countries.
"It is wonderful that young people make close contact to encourage and develop friendliness, competitiveness, sporting and social behaviour and good will.
"Participation in sport, and particularly in my field of endeavour, football, produces the coming together of different mentalities, cultures and beliefs.
"Hopefully, the Consett the World Project will prove the game is worth more than the prize.
"I wish all contestants who are coming together for this inaugural tournament the most happy, thrilling, enjoyable and learning experience and that they will remember this occasion for the rest of their lives.
"How wonderful that this is happening in our beloved North East!"
