Consett the World is an exciting new project to bring the town of Consett and its people into closer contact with the outside world through sport, music and the things that we are proud of, particularly football.
In September 2009, we are holding the first Consett International Football Festival with visitors from Liberia, Peru and Hungary. Help us with your time, support, contacts and finances to make this a reality.

TV presenter Adrian Chiles is to host a Sports Dinner for Consett the World in March at the Derwent Manor Hotel, Allensford.
The presenter of BBC1’s The ONE Show and Match of The Day 2 – who is also a patron of the Consett-based organisation – agreed to host the event in March to help recruit support for Consett the World from the local business community. Adrian will be joined by the man described by Sir Bobby Robson as “the funniest after dinner speaker I have heard on football”, Bob ‘the Cat’ Bevan.
Organiser Ian Bowley said: “We’re delighted that Adrian has found time in his busy schedule to fit us in. It took a long time and a lot of hard work to find a date that suited both Adrian and Bob, and we are expecting a fabulous night.”
Tickets cost £60 a head or £495 for a table of ten and are available from the Consett the World office on 01207 585828 or via thecat@consett-the-world.com. There will also be an auction of sporting memorabilia on the night.
Adrian said: “It’s great to be coming back to Consett even if it’s just for one night. I’ve got some good friends in Consett from my university days and I’ve had some great nights out there in the past.”
Adrian visited Liberia in January 2008, and met some of the young footballers who are part of one of the football clubs which is hoping to be represented at the Consett international Football Festival in September 2009.
The night was originally scheduled for later in March, until Adrian confirmed his availability on March 7. Those who have already bought tickets were contacted before the change was announced to make sure they could also attend on the new date. All were happy to go along with the changed date.
Guest speaker Bob Bevan is one of the best-known names on the after-dinner circuit. His nickname refers to his hopelessness as a goalkeeper at the very lowest level of the game, but he is now in huge demand on the corporate circuit at home and abroad. He has made countless appearances on TV and radio, and is a regular guest on Channel 4’s “Countdown”, and has appeared regularly on radio.
